German 1, a beginning-level course, introduces the German language and culture for students with no previous knowledge of German. The course focuses on speaking, reading, writing, and listening. Accelerated course covers German 1 and part of German 2. It is designed for motivated beginning students. Students develop skills in speaking, reading, writing, and listening to real-life German. (Formerly Intensive Elementary German.)
Accelerated course part 2 covers part of German 2 and all of German 3. In this course, students who have successfully completed German 1A (or its equivalent) continue to develop competence in speaking, reading, writing, and understanding real-life German. (Formerly Intensive Elementary German.)
German 2, a second-quarter course, is designed for students who have successfully completed German 1 (or its equivalent). Students continue to develop competence in speaking, reading, writing, and understanding in the context of real-life language use. (Formerly Instruction in the German Language.)
German 3 is designed for students who have successfully completed German 2 (or its equivalent; e.g., 2-3 years of high school German). Students continue to develop competence in speaking, reading, writing, and understanding real-life German. (Formerly Instruction in the German Language.)
Intermediate composition and conversation based on the reading of selected prose and related cultural material. Speaking, reading, writing, and listening comprehension skills are developed by extensive use of media materials. Conducted entirely in German.
