History of Consciousness

HISC 73 Can We Really ‘Save’ Animals?

What does animal conservation mean in our contemporary world of deforestation, climate change, and unchecked capitalism? This course explores the intersections between animal behavior and ecology and the environmental humanities to assess the forms animal conservation takes in the contemporary era, and investigates discourses that humans employ to ‘save’ our fellow animals. Course navigates the competing interests and actors that come into conflict in the world of animal conservation, as well as the possibilities of survival in our entangled futures.
