SPAN 130 Spanish for the Legal Profession

Introduction to legal language in Spanish by surveying a range of topics in civil law, criminal law, and immigration law. While acquiring the necessary vocabulary to talk about these topics, students gain awareness of the functioning of the U.S. legal system as well as the ways in which language intersects with the law. Comparisons with Latin America and Spain are made when relevant. Class discussions provide opportunities for debate, analysis, and critical reflection.
