LIT 185G Modern Drama
Speaking, reading, and writing proficiency in Italian required. Major currents in the 20th-century Italian theater, from D'Annunzio to the contemporary avant-garde. The dramatic texts are approached from a variety of different perspectives: semiotic, anthropological, and sociological. The differentiation between the literary and the theatrical codes is a major focus. Among authors studied are D'Annunzio, Pirandello, Betti, De Filippo and Fo.
