Speaking, reading, and writing proficiency in Italian required. A close thematic and stylistic study of the poetics of romanticism in Italy. Readings include the epistolary novel and lyrics of Ugo Foscolo and the Canti of Giacomo Leopardi, as well as selections from his prose dialogues, Le Operette Morali.
