HISC 147 Truth, Ideology, And Power
Amid a resurgence of explicitly ideological politics married to what some consider to be a dearth of concern for empirical truth, how should we think about the relationship between truth and ideology? This class pursues an interdisciplinary approach, spanning literatures from the fields of epistemology and language philosophy, intellectual history, political theory, and semiotics, in order to consider how the problem of truth surfaces in theorizations of ideology, what differentiates ideologies from truths, and what the function of “truth” is in our conceptions of ourselves today.
