History of Consciousness
HISC 167 Liberation Technology
Explores technologies for social change, self-affirmation, and more-than-human connection. Investigates technologies of liberation in an era of enclosure, control, domination, and regressive universalisms. Envisions alternative technologies for transgression, self-government, collective autonomy, and ecological interdependence. Students read critical social theory; experiment with alternative technologies and alternative futurities; create speculative objects, media, relations; explore image, sound, and the body; think with art, continental philosophy, cultural studies; discuss power, liberation, and justice; and, most importantly, learn to know your escape routes.
